Question

Updates don't install on my Windows 7 laptop

The late June Windows updates do not install. I keep having to start the computer in Safe Mode and going back to the previous format. I have found how to stop the automatic updates and I hope that this will help for a while, but how do I know what updates I really need?

Start > control panel > windows update.

Click on settings.
Select download but let me chose whether to install.
Click on OK.

Click on check for updates.
If there are updates you should be able to see what they are.

If you don't know what some update is about plug the KB number into google.

Yes, My computer gives me a summary of each update, but I don't have enough computer background to understand if I really need the update. How do I figure it out? Does Google explain that?

Maybe. Maybe not.

Google and the KBnnnnnnn does tell me what the patch is for but many of us can't understand that. For you, it may be good enough to understand this patch doesn't work on your PC and block it.

If you want to try, post the KBnnnnnnn number so others can try to explain what it does and even then you have to decide if you must have it.

You plug the KB number into google and do some reading.

It's up to you to spend the time and effort or you could set the updates to never and wing-it.
