Updates did not install properly

Jul 7, 2010 4:12AM PDT

A friend has a Sony laptop with an Intel Centrino processor running Vista Home Premium. A few days ago, she went to power up the system and after the Windows splash screen she gets this message (presumably from Vista)... "Updates were not configured correctly. Reverting changes. Do not power off...". After several seconds, the system reboots itself only to start the same scenario over and over. It never gets past it. How can we break that loop and correct the problem?

Installing latest update of Zone Alarm Free Firewall
Jul 21, 2010 7:42AM PDT

I appear to be able to download the update satisfactorily but when I try to install it it always fails after reaching 15%. I have never had any trouble with Zone Alarm updates previously. My operating system is Windows Vista.
Has anyone any suggestions on what is going wrong and what to do about it?

The bad answer
Jul 23, 2010 11:11PM PDT

It's a Sony laptop so the recovery media does not allow for repair of this issue. The answer is sadly and bad at that.

You save the files they forgot to backup then restore the PC with the recovery media.

Sad but the makers do not offer the repair tools you could use in the full retail OS versions.
