ewido and Zone Alarm....
Dec 19, 2005 5:42AM PST

Just updated ewido, and had a popup from ZA asking to let "anti malware" access my PC. I denied it at first, and ewido would not update. Went to ZA programs and turned it on, ewido then updated. Program Change I guess.

Anyone else have this happen?

Yes

And if I didn't have 6 monhs left on my ZA license, I think I would change today. ZA is asking some stupid questions lately.

Hi Alan...

I have the free version of ZA, That's actually the first popup I've had from ZA for a long time. I think it is just doing it's job, so will keep mine.
Thanks for your input.

Yes, Larry, if you open
Dec 19, 2005 5:51AM PST

ewido now you'll see that the program name has changed from Ewido SS to Ewido Anti-Malware. I had another friend e-mail me that her McAfee also popped up but allowed the change. You can see the name change at the website also.

What ticks me off is that every time I open Ewido, ZA asks the same question even though I check the box to always allow. I have been seeing this on both PCs for awhile now regarding different software.

Alan, I have

no idea what the settings are on Zone Alarm because I don't use it but there has to be a way to lock it in so it doesn't ask every time. The reason it asked today was because ewido changed the name of the program but once you allow it to access the internet for updates there should be a setting in ZoneAlarm that will remember that so you aren't nagged all the time. Perhaps someone that has ZoneAlarm can chime in.

Alan, Did You??...
Dec 19, 2005 7:20AM PST

Double click on the ZA icon in the lower right to open the ZA console. Now click on the "Program Control" tab on the left, then click on the "Programs" tab at the top, then find the "e anti malware" program designation listing, then click once on the "Access column/Trusted and Access column/Internet" , then choose "Allow" for each one..The next time, as long as the same program name needs access, it should be allowed automatically.

You should be able to fix each program you're having difficulty with in the same manner.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, I knew this, but had not done it. In spite of telling ZA three times that the new name was OK, it was still not set right.

Alan,
Dec 19, 2005 7:29AM PST

As I said above I have the free version, so don't know what difference there is between the free version and paid version.
I run my ZA just as it was downloaded, have not changed any settings, I very seldom see any popups as I click the allow box. The only time I do see any popups, is when I put a new program on my PC. Also when I upgrade ZA and do a clean install, I have to go through the routine. I have not had the problems you are talking about.
Just a suggestion, If I had these problems, I would uninstall ZA, run CCleaner, then reinstall and see if that helped.
