Updates crossed Netscape

Jan 4, 2006 2:06AM PST

I'm running Win XP SP2 on Emachine T5026, 3 users with me as Admin only and Norton suite; the system is clean. Since I installed the lastest updates for Windows, Netscape 8.0 gives an error message when you try to start it up from the menu or desktop. (App must restart as previous attempt to install incomplete) But if I use the short cut from the wireless keyboard it runs perfect. I have restored to an earlier date twice and it works until I load the XP updates and even if I uninstall and reinstall Netscape it still gives the same error. Has anyone else had this problem.

Have you tried...

I haven't experienced that problem, but to me it sounds like the shortcut on your desktop is now pointing to the wrong location. (Strange that a Windows update would do that, but Microsoft previously had problems when IE 7 beta testers downloaded the latest Windows updates, so it's not that surprising.) I'd delete the shortcut, navigating to the actual program (C:\Program Files\Netscape), right-click the program, select copy, right-click your desktop, and select paste shortcut.

Hope this helps,
John

Seems fixed

I restored to a earlier date, put everyone as admins, then uninstall netscape, use microsoft update to auto and reinstall netscape and it seems to be working fine now so everyone is back to normal for now but I try your solution if it comes up again.
