Marianna, where did you see the offer for $6.24 upgrade?
by Harv / August 31, 2007 2:50 PM PDT

I went to moosoft's website and could not find anything about a discount for present paid subscribers. Confused

Forgot to ask if the paid version is worth the money.
by Harv / August 31, 2007 3:31 PM PDT

I've been a paid The Cleaner subscriber for years and don't see any advantage to the paid version. What's your opinion?

Collapse -
NOT worth it !
by Brent Welch / September 11, 2007 4:13 AM PDT

The paid version no longer has the real-time protection that it's predecessor had, (which I never used anyway) And the change-over to a subscription better serves only the company, not the customers. If one chooses to use the program, the free version should be adequate for most.

Note however that support for the program has declined steadily in the past. I purposely downloaded a trojan infected e-mail onto my test machine about a year ago. The Cleaner showed it as clean, ewido showed it infected. AVG Free caught the infection the next day, after the update. After submitting it twice, 3 weeks & 5 updates later, the Cleaner finally detected it. Not my idea of good support by any stretch of the imagination.

HTH

Harv,
by Marianna Schmudlach / September 10, 2007 1:51 PM PDT

I did receive an e-mail (I have subscribed for years) but it is NOT worth it, I think Sad

From the Moosoft forum:

The Cleaner v5 has had it's price cut by half and added a $4.95 subscription. We feel this will better serve our customers. The FAQ is still for v4 but will be updated as questions arise.

You now have to pay a MONTHLY fee of $4.95 !!!!!

http://www.moosoft.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=35

I haven't tried the FREE version. I also have Trojan Hunter since several years (paid version) I guess, I will stick with ONLY that one.

Here is the forum for The Cleaner v5

Thanks Brent and Marianna for your advice.

In reply to: Harv,

I installed the new version of the Cleaner when the notice appeared in this forum and noticed it no longer provided real-time protection against trojans. So, I uninstalled it, as it didn't seem to offer much protection. And, having to pay $4.95 monthly, forget it! Angry
