Question

Sep 16, 2015 4:06AM PDT

reading posts and refreshing page UPDATED SINCE LAST VISIT is still displayed.

"mark all as read" and refresh page sometimes UPDATED SINCE LAST VISIT disappears for a while...NO new posts...and then UPDATED SINCE LAST VISIT appears again with NO new posts .

Discussion is locked

Deleted posts?

I'm not sure but I think this might be where a post is deleted for any reason, eg spam, but the cookie in your browser files is not updated.

I reckon Lee has reported this to the engineers, but I will alert him anyway.

Does the "UPDATED SINCE LAST VISIT" ever go away or consistently sticks even after you've read the entire thread?

I noticed that sometimes the "UPDATED SINCE LAST VISIT" doesn't display even though there have been updates to the discussion thread. Is that the case for you as well?

Also do you remember when you started to notice the system not behaving correctly?

The possibility of this occurring as Mark mentioned, can be a result of new posts that updated the thread, but then were deleted because of spam or other reasons. But I'm not for certain as I am still investigating the behavior.

Any additional details that you can provide will help.

I appreciate it.

BTW the message marking is not done via cookies, as it is stored data for each individual account when you are logged in.

It's intermittent and flukey

That "numbnuts" thread with the deletions keep showing up as having UPDATE yet there were no new posts, tried "mark all as read" still shows as having UPDATE

The UPDATE will appear for a thread 3 or 4 down for the top of the page...the posts that made after that do NOT show as having an UPDATE, yet there are NEW posts in those threads.

OK let me know.

I've been playing around with it and it seems to be working now--it must be an intermittent thing. Which is difficult to reproduce sometimes.

Let me know what the experience is with IE. Thanks for the info JP.

I just remembered JP.

The "Mark all as Read" is not working. While it does mark everything as read on the Forum listing page, what it is NOT doing is, marking the discussions threads as read.

We had hid the "Mark all as read" button, but it somehow surfaced again. That button wasn't suppose to be displayed until we fixed the problem with the Mark all as read.

So please take note of this.

Sorry about that.

http://www.cnet.com/forums/discussions/updated-since-last-visit/

Some days almost every thread I read comes back with the 'updated msg'.
A reread of the thread does not show any new post.
A refresh of the page may or may not get rid of it....mostly not.

Kind of annoying if you visit the forums often and your trying to track new post in threads.

you can have some fun with it

Seems if you preview the post it sets the updated thread on it. Hah, I've had JPBill jumping for days on that numbnuts thread doing it. Wink
