Update Spybot-S&D manually?

by grin_n_bare / April 2, 2006 5:42 AM PDT

I'm working on someone's computer that is usually on a network, there is no modem for a dial up connection. How can I update Spybot-S&D manually?

Thank you in advance.

Update

Obviously you cannot download the latest version of Spybot S&D, if you do not have internet access. You could ask someone who has internet access to download and copy it to disk. Then you can load the update into your system.

Thank you both, however ...............

Thank you both, Damn_machine and Paul C. I don't think I made myself clear. I do have an internet connection, the machine I'm working on doesn't. I have the Spybot-S&D update on a USB Flash drive.

What I don't know is where exactly to place the update.

Thank you again

I don't know if you will be able to update Spybot's Detection rules, etc.,from your flash drive. You may have to download and install the latest version of Spybot S&D. Just for clarification: The machine in question is not internet accessible - so you are using Spybot to defend against other networked computers?

Internet access ..

When connected to the network at the workplace the machine can, and does, access the internet. However, I have no way of going online with it, there is no modem.

I did install a brand new copy of Spybot but it had no detection files at all. ??? Didn't even know that it now comes with no detection files. Anyway I got and installed the manual update (see post below), Spybot found a ton of stuff, mostly all cookies.

Thanks for your help.

If You're Saying the Machine HAS Spybot 1.4 & You Just....

want to put in the newest definitions (includes) you can copy & paste them to : Explore C>program Files>Spybot Folder. When you try to paste it'll say there is one already, do you wish to replace? Enter Yes and back out & you're done.
If you mean the triple from Apr.1st including the scanning upgrades, I'm not positive as to EXACTLY how.
I THINK you can open it it using the Start> RUN command & pointing it to say Desktop or My Docs (where ever you decide to place it) for it to find and run.
If not you may need to bring a whole new Spybot (assuming current download has latest scanning upgrade included) and then just add new includes if need be.
Hoping this helps. Fingers crossed. Happy

Close enough! Thanks, I had no idea, I have never done a manual update before. I placed the update I downloaded in the Spybot subfolder Updates and that didn't seen to do it. So I went back and double kicked ... er ... double clicked it and it "installed" itself into Spybot!! LOL

That was fun!

Thank you so much.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
