UPDATE CHECKER ii
Jul 26, 2009 7:39AM PDT

We aren't fixing anything. We just want to know if this would be a good way to keep our system up todate. If it is a safe web site and if it is good software.

Then what will we be breaking?

There is NO known system that updates without risk. NO system known will test updates in the combination of hardware and software you have on your machine.

It's a shame there is nothing worth using for this area. Let's go with the old adage here. If it ain't broke.

The site is unsafe since it is far too likely some machines will fail after such updates.

Update checker is a beta file.
I do not normally use Beta but have downloaded and scanned with this program for months.

It show you either all of your programs or just the ones that need updating.

It does not update anything unless you choose to update from File Hippo.
I choose the ones I want to update by going directly to the program website. Some program I update from File Hippo because even the websites use file hippo.

I have not had any problems with update checker scanning and tell what program has an update.

UPDATE CHECKER QUESTION
Jul 26, 2009 11:52PM PDT

What is the difference if you are doing updates from Microsoft, HP, or other vendors?? We update almost everything to fix bugs, security, etc. so I don't understand the difference in risk to a system?? Please explain.

Also, what is File Hippo??

Let's say you use the HP updater.

HP knows your machine and tries to make sure that updates do not make problems.

Microsoft's Update Driver however is known to cause problems and most will tell you to only use that as a last resort.

I've come to realize that some lessons can never be learned. That is you'll read about backup hundreds of times but still you find owners with no backup and posting for help to recover files.

Same thing here. The more seasoned owners (the ones that got burned by updating everything all the time) will likely not fix a working machine.

Your choice here but as no UPDATE CHECKER software has yet to give you an assurance that your machine will fail in some odd new way after THEIR selection of updates then my advice is simple. Don't do it.
