Most digital cameras have a rather limited flash.
I guess they do that to increase battery life.
There is one camera that seems to fit your desires.
At least it will give you a starting point.
It has a flash range of 12.4 feet.
Take a look at the Sony DSC-P73.
It has a 3X optical zoom and 4 megapixels, but still fits your price target.

Hi, I don't know much about photography, but I do know when I see a good picture. Thanks to a similar forum I got my "regular" rollei camera and it's great. Now I need a very good digital camera (in my price range) and was hoping you could help. I mostly take pictures of my children and mostly inside (although, of course, a lot of them are outside, too). I like clear pictures, not too dark. I do care about the size, but it's not THAT important. I like taking close-ups, but I know optical zoom costs a lot. What is the right optical zoom for close ups that are good, but not too ambitious? I want the camera to be easy to operate. Basically, I need an overall good camera, with emphasis on taking pictures of people. Thank you very much for your help.
