Ok so... I get the Samsung 46" 650 series LCD with 120Hz and all that good stuff, and I want to get a progressive scan dvd player so they will look great on my TV. After days of trying to figure out how to hook all of my equipment to my audio receiver, I figure I must get a dvd player with optical output (because cable box only has coax, dont ask). Not only is it hard to find a plain ol' progressive scan dvd player, but even harder to find one with an optical out. So, I purchase an upscaling one, thinking it will be amazing like EVERYONE else says, and I hook it up HDMI, set it to 1080p, and the picture is extremely grainy and pixelated. I put it on 720p and it looks better, but still bad. I put it on 480p, again, better, but not as good as my old player looked through composite. So... I'm wondering, could my 120Hz being set to Medium (there's a high, medium, low, and Off setting) be causing the graininess? The picture is FAR from clear. After bring back and purchasing 3 other players, I ended up with the Samsung dvd-1080p8, hoping that being a samsung, it would be fine, and it is, through component only. I have it on component now, and it looks GREAT on 480p. I'm just wondering, why won't 1080p look good? Some say because my TV does a better upscaling job than my player, but I just cannot find a non-upscaling player that I like... Any suggestions??
