Question

Unsubscribe from Alerts

Nov 8, 2014 9:11AM PST

I have been trying to unsubscribe from one of the alerts I get -- Mozilla Firefox update -- but the alerts continue to come. I click on the "Unsubscribe" link in the email alert, but I don't know what I am doing wrong??

Answer
Check For Firefox Updates Manually...

If you're referring to the alerts the Firefox gives you when a new update is released, then open Firefox, click on "Tools" in the upper left, choose "Options", then select the "Advanced" tab. Once there, select the "Update" tab, and place a dot/tick in the "Never check for updates" option, then click on OK.

Or if you're referring to the CNET Download Watch Alerts, click on the link below, visit your profile's management page in the link listed, change your preferences so you aren't tracking any items, THEN unsubscribe if you need to.

On the other hand, if you're referring to an alert that is sent to you from this website or Download.com, first make sure you don't have any of the "Update Checker", "CNET Tech Tracker" or the "Download Now App" software installed on your computer. Look in the Control Panel-Programs and Features section and uninstall if it's there.

Hope this helps.

Should have explained better . . .
Nov 10, 2014 11:47AM PST

Actually, I no longer use Mozilla Firefox and have no further plans to. If I can't unsubscribe from the alerts for Firefox, then I will have no choice but to unsubscribe from ALL alerts. Is there an alternative??

Already Explained...

If you don't use Firefox, then uninstall it and the update alerts directly from winthin the program will go away. If you are getting alerts from other locations, such as CNET, then follow the instructions I gave to eliminate those alerts you choose. You should be able to eliminate each one individually. In my case, I choose not to get ANY update alerts so I make "no alerts" my preference. I follow such programs closely enough that I know when updates come out so I can update when I choose.

Hope this helps.

I did . . .

I *did* uninstall Firefox -- quite some time ago, actually. Yet, I continue to get the alerts. So, are you saying that simply clicking on the "Unsubscribe" link in the alert emails doesn't do the job by itself?? I didn't see any other instructions. *Sigh* Well, it looks like I will just have to unsubscribe from all alerts . . .
