Thanks

Just opening the app./prog. "Windows Movie Maker" and not a file within ? A 'prompt'?-perhaps you can describe this more ? Is it a small window, similar to a pop up ? If so, what is the title ? Any '!' ,'?' or 'X' ?

Yes, a small prompt similar to a popup. Does have a title bar across the top...says, Windows Movie Maker. Happens when clicking on Windows Movie Maker via Start Button\All Programs\Windows Movie Maker

Prompt comes when clicking on Windows Movie Maker to open, BUT...Windows Movie Maker does not open getting only that prompt that says "Unspecified Error".

Thanks for the google search results, but I already found the same. That search result did not apply to this problem.

Possible solution.

Found nothing at mskb to be of help. A few google attempts resulted in THIS . Scroll down to the last poster. Does it help ?

You can also use System Restore, if you can afford to, that is if the problem is recent enough for you to redo changes you have made to the system, and to reinstall programs. Personal files will not be lost.

1. The article [Q308549] describes the System Information tool (Msinfo32.exe) used to diagnose issues, or to access other tools, and to gather information about your computer such as devices that are installed or device drivers that are loaded, and provides a menu for displaying the associated system topics.

2. The article [Q310747] discusses and describes the Beta release of System File Checker, a command-line tool that examines protected system files and restores the correct versions by using backups stored in the Dllcache folder or files copied from the operating system CD.

The message suggesting going back with System Restore is the best answer. Back up anything you put in, preferably on CD-RW as the capacity will hold most of what you have, then go back to five or six days on SysRestore. Should fix the problem. Of course, if you don't have a DVD-R drive then Movie Maker doesn't work much at all.

Thanks everyone for your input/suggestions.
My problem could be due to a number of things like having other editors installed I have found. A System Restore is not an option because...
a. I have no idea how far to go back. I've had this OS running for over a year to just now find that WMM is not functioning. Everything on this system functions normal.
b.I was just curious and wanted to take a look at it. This is not going to effect anything I do anyway.

Thanks to all who gave me some time to help.
