Unsolicited Search

In trying to search CNet reviews for a scanner I get my requested page for about 2 seconds then rediredted to MSN web search for

view.atdmt.com/MRT/iview/cntnswxp0050000569mrt/direct/01/2007.05.23.20.38.30?click=http:%2F%2Fadlog%2Ecom%2Ecom%2Fadlog%2Fe%2Fr%.

This does'nt look at all familiar. Could this be a highjack attempt or just another system prob? Has this system finally pushed me over the edge. LOL.

It's probably spyware

And spyware/malware is probably the single biggest reason you shouldn't be using Internet Explorer, or anything based on Internet Explorer.

Start running some scans, see if you can get rid of whatever you've picked up, then ditch IE for your choice of Mozilla Firefox or Opera.

Now What?

Okay it's taken me over 3 days to get through almost all the hoops on the CastleCops site for HJT. I disabled real time monitoring, then ran CCleaner, Ad-Aware, Spy-Bot,Windows Defender, Prevxt1, Super Anti Spyware, McAfee Viruscan & AVG Anti-spyware. It has taken me over 3 days to get this far due to the system freezes and other problems. And now when I try to check my e-mail I only get mail from last Sept-Nov trust me these were deleted long ago and twice again today with CW Shredder but it keeps reappearing. This is just going from bad to worse.

Castle Cops Should Proceed With You Until It's Fixed..

Have they not done that? Have you returned to your discussion in Castle Cops and reported each step of your progress? It will frequently take a few days to fix complicated issues but you need to keep posting back to your discussion until the problem is gone.

Are you saying that your Sept-Nov mail keeps reappearing? Or are you referring to some other file?

Could you provide us with a link to your discussion in Castle Cops? (I checked the HijackThis section of the forums and couldn't find your username as it is here.)

Just Followed Directions

I followed your link to Castle Cops & was instructed to read HJT guidelines before proceeding. That referred me to the Malware Removal and Prevention Procedure which provides a list of all the procedures that must be completed before posting a HJT log or recieving assistance. I had almost completed the list when I ran into the problem with my e-mail. All current e-mail is gone and only previously deleted e-mail from last Sept-Nov appears. At this point I'm just transfering all my photos & documents to my laptop before they they vanish. And then I guess I'll go shopping for a new PC. Thanks for your help though.
