General discussion

unrecognised SD card

Jan 16, 2007 7:24AM PST

I have a Toshiba e-570 PDA which is working fine with a 1gb SD card. I have just bought a 2 GB SD card for it which it won't recognise, won't format etc.

I have an LG LM50 (running windows XP) laptop with an SD slot so I tried to format it on there. It recognises the SD card is there and says it is not formatted and would I like to format it. I say yes and the laptop says it can't.

As a last resort and experiment I put it in my camera and told the camera to format it (Nikon Coolpix 7900) and it accepted and said it had done it.
I tried it in the laptop again and it said it was unformatted and then wouldnt format as before.

Is this because the PDA and laptop are older and can't address an SD card of this size?
Is this a problem that can be solved with new drivers?

Or is it something else?
Is there any way I can get the card to work with the PDA?

Any help most gratefully received.

Jill

My r3000 laptop doesn't work with over 1GB cards. I had to get an USB memory card adapter to get it to work on the laptop. The Toshiba PDA is from days when there were no 2GB cards so you may be testing new ground.

Sigh. Thanks Bob.

And here I thought there was going to be an easy fix by installing new drivers!

I think I shall have to downscale my expectations of storage on the pda.
