unnecessary start ups & unwanetd files revisited

all this info is amazing, I've seen no mention of TUT by answers that work. It seems to (little me) to be incredibly smart & easy to use. Also no mention of advise on "fix your windows" for unnecessary programs, I've used both , hope I haven't been naive! also if I may ask do you literaly shut down everything with end it all including firewall & antivirus pgm? before defraging? and Grif if you see this I am unable at this point to read graphs in the performance section of XP Home how do I estimate a startup % without having to understand everything on its help page. Thanks so much for everyones efforts!!!!!
