Unmount Windows from Ubuntu

May 13, 2006 6:04PM PDT

I mounted window with the intention of using wine to open a windows app.In the mean time I found an app that would be suitable for Ubuntu and would replace the windows app.

When I right click and click unmount windows on the windows icon and error message appears as follows:
Unmount: only root can unmount /dev/hda1 from /media/windows

Went to terminal and typed "sudo umount /media/windows"
This removed windows until the next time I boot up then it reappears.

Is the right script"sudo /dev/hda1/media/windows"
The reason I ask is that I do not want to erase my windows ME operating system

Thanks
Ray

Why bother

It's not hurting anything. I access my Windows partitions
using Konqueror. Also access Mandriva partitions from XP.
FWIW chuck

Edit fstab

But I also agree with chuck. Why bother indeed? It's not bothering anything. I am not sure about your fear of erasing windows. (In the case of ME, I would be more afraid of using it!)

Hey thanks guys

the fstab worked it completely removed all the windows.
The only reason for removing it is that it was loaded on my small hdd (20gb) I have a Linux distro and Windows on that hdd and I need all the space I can make available.
If it would of been on my larger hdd 80gb I would of left it alone.

I have one of the exceptionally good ME o/s's in five years I have only had one bsod. I like it and will not upgrade until Vista is stable and I purchase a new Dell.
I know thats two strikes against me a Dell and ME.

Thanks again for the help.
