Question

Unknown webpages pop up on my computer screen?

by TheFishyTiger / February 13, 2018 4:07 AM PST

Hey, I've been having issues with my laptop lately. Every now and then a random, unknown and unvisited website would pop up on my computer screen. I could not exit out of it nor click on anything it showed me. It wouldn't show up on my task manager and my Windows Defender would show no signs of a threat when it was on my screen. I cannot see most of my screen when it is on here because it tries very hard to cover my screen completely. Wherever I move my cursor the unknown page will flicker and I can see my original computer screen for a brief moment. It cannot play over a video and will not appear on my initial login page for my laptop. It was happening maybe once a week, then twice a week, then everyday and now it appears immediately after I open my desktop. I have ran my Windows Defender and I have found Trojan CoinMiners that I keep quarantining and removing but I can't seem to get rid of them nor do I know for certain that they are the root of the problem. Please help me find out how to solve this issue, this is the only way I can do my work and I cannot afford a new computer right now, Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

If your system is showing pop ups, then it would surely be a Malware infection specifically adware type of infection. Download and install Comodo Antivirus.

I had a similar problem last month, and I used Comodo Antivirus to resolve it. It had detected a Malware and removed it completely. Finally, I rebooted my system, and everything worked like a charm, thanks to Comodo!

A miner is not minor issue

It is totally possible, I think, that a miner causes such browser window launches because some of them surely use browsers to be able to operate. If you also experience that your CPU is running around 100% and your computer is next to useless, I am quite sure that such a miner is still operating somehow. I use the free version of Malwarebytes apart from Windows Defender and run deep scans to find everything possible. But, if this issue is stubborn, I may consider actually buying a proper and reputable antimalware program. Just make sure that you go for the right one because there are so many rogue ones.

It is also true that browser windows can also be opened by other malware like adware programs, browser hijackers, and sometimes even potentially unwanted programs. However, I should think that these can be detected with Defender most of the time. And I don't think such threats would cause that kind of flickering you described.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
