People rely too heavily on the installed Antivirus which can be a target for a malicious script or virus. I always suggest an online Virus scan (like Housecall) and then you can use STARTER which I note at http://reviews.cnet.com/5208-6132-0.html?forumID=32&threadID=1313&start=0
Bob
I'm running W2K on my desktop computer. This morning, for the first time, when I booted up the command prompt box appeared with the title bar reading "C:\WINNT\System32\CScript.exe"
Inside the box it says "Microsoft Script Host 5.6" and the copyright information. Then there's just a flashing cursor.
Here's what I've done, and the order I've done them:
* Updated my anti-virus files for Norton's Corporate Edition software
* Scanned my hard drives using Norton's and came up with nothing
* Scanned my hard drives using Ad-Aware 6 and dumped the cookies it found and a few Cydoors in the registry
* Used an msconfig.exe utility for W2K to see if there was anything strange in the start-up menu and there wasn't
That's it. But I'm still getting the command prompt box to appear with every reboot or when I log off and log back in, using any user profile I have on the computer.
I'm assuming it's some piece of spyware that's embedded in the OS but I'm not about to go digging in the registry to try and find it without asking for a little help first.
Can anybody lend a hand?
