Question

Unknown error box and what to do about it

Mar 11, 2015 8:39PM PDT

Over the past week an error box has started to appear on the screen. The full dialogue within the box is as follows:-

Error loading C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1System\sysmenu.dll
The specified module could not be found

Can anyone tell me what this is, whether its affecting the computer, and what I can do to get rid/rectify the problem.
Thanks

When does it appear?
Only you know if something you need doesn't work anymore, due to this message. Can you tell?

Unknown Error Box

Have done msconfig and went to Boot Tab as instructed but the only thing in the dialogue is:-
Microsoft Windows Vista(C::\Windows):Current OS; Default OS
All other check boxes are blank.

Then you'll have to move beyong msconfig.

Since malware is found too often I'd start with the scans noted by Grif at:
http://forums.cnet.com/7726-6122_102-5509131.html?tag=posts;msg5509131

I think this is the next move since the rather technical prior discussions did not work for you.

If those come up clean or the issue continues I think it's time to go get HIJACKTHIS to create a log and then research each line item to see what it does.
