Unknown Empty Slot in my Mother Board

Oct 18, 2018 12:35AM PDT

I have a Toshiba Portégé Z30-A. In the Motherboard (intel core i7 4th gen) i can see an Empty 5+28 pin Connector. i wonder it should be a PCIe express slot for SSDs. so any one of you please let me know what i thinking was correct and please tell me know what kind of PCIe slot is that and can i use this ( https://www.newegg.com/global/in/Product/Product.aspx?item=N82E16820147691 ) in that slot.

Picture of the Slot available in my Drive

Hi thanks for you reply. Actually i don't have to since i bought it long back 4 years back. i kept it some where i can't find it. you can match my Laptop with the this (http://www.myfixguide.com/manual/toshiba-portege-z30-a-disassembly/).

So why i want to know it now? because i have disassembled it since the Thermal grease has expired i am getting heating issue with 30 min of usage so i have a quick look while disassembly i found a SIM card slot which was empty and this port which was empty (which was not being used since i bought it). so how i need some exports like you to help me on this.

The slot isn't enough to tell.

As we hit https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PCI_Express for Mini PCIe implementations we find many variants so we're always back to the maker to ask what this slot can do.

As to your question, the SSD drive you showed looks to be too long to fit in that space.

You best ask toshiba what that slot is for.
It might not be for anything if toshiba did not enable it in their bios.
