Universal Simlock Remover generates virus Dynamer!dtc

Nov 29, 2011 4:27AM PST

Universal Simlock Remover, after installation and at execution generates virus: Dynamer!dtc.
The zipped and installed files are o.k. according to M.S. Essentials. But after installation and at execution the virus emerges.
What gives!?
thanks.

false positives.

yes. in spite of my otherwise supreme ignorance, yes: i have heard of false positives.
And as i said in my post, when i scan the downloaded usr_1091.rar file and after that the extracted usr_1091.exe file with MS security essentials there are no viruses reported.
After I run the extracted usr_1091.exe file and so install the application and then run the usr installed application and from the menu that appears then try to run what shows up in that menu as "samsung UNIVERSAL SAMSUNG TOOL" then MS security essentials reports virus named Dynamer!dtc.
I could not find any indication pointing to that finding as being a false positive. But again, that might be due to my personal limitations.
by the way, is there a way to report this directly to cnet or is the forum the only avenue? i could not find a "contact us" link on the cnet page.
thanks.

You can use the Alert triangle on your post.

It will go to all the moderators as well as a few that will pass this up.

However it does look like a false positive to me. There's another issue I see and that it looks like very old software. I see bits and pieces dating back to 1998 so updates to fix any false positive is unlikely.

Hope it did what you wanted and then you can dump it.

Here it came up as a Universal Simlock Tool.

Dynamer!dtc is Universal Simlock Tool?
Nov 29, 2011 8:17AM PST

just to be sure: your tools report that Dynamer!dtc is nothing else than the Universal Simlock Tool?
thanks.

Sorry for the typo.

Tool should have been Remover. And now that I've removed this software I would have to reinstall it to test further.

I see above I reported what tool I used and what it reported. Since only ONE out of FORTY THREE tools noted it (and I supplied what it was called by the one) it feels like another false positive.

Let's bottomline this. Is the software usefull? If not, delete it and go on.

Let's bottomline this again. Are there other false positives? Yes.

And again. Will the software authors fix their software to get rid of the false positive? Good question but from my experience, no they won't.
