Uninstalling Windows XP

Jun 1, 2005 3:54AM PDT

I owned a notebook computer that carries Windows XP and a desktop computer that carries Windows 98.
I used the Windoew XP Home Edition disk that came with my notebook computer to upgrade my desktop computer from Windows 98 to Windows XP. Everything was fine until I started having problem with my notebook (internet connection). I messed with it and caused all sorts of problems. I ended up re-install W-XP on my notebook and it required me to register it and since I couldn't do it over the internet I had to do it by phone. The customer agent ask me if I have that operating system on more than one computer and I told her yes and she said that I had to uninstall one and then call back. I tried to uninstall the one on my desktop but couldn't, there is nothing in Add/Remove file and I can't find it in C (My Computer). In the mean time I an locked out of my notebook because the time to register has expired. Can anyone help me in getting Windows XP uninstall from my desktop and revert it back to Windows 98?

Thanks,
Aqua-Gal

In this scenario...

You get to do what is called a full install. If the item is not in the add/remove programs, there is no uninstall.

The Microsoft XP License has teeth. It's sad no one warned you about this.

Once you backup your files, use the restore CDs for the Windows 98 machine.

If you want XP on both buy another copy OEM for the laptop and use it for the laptop.
I'm surprised the laptop version even worked on the desktop.

Some Dells we get have the Microsoft made XP CD and you could pull this off. We treasure those since they are not locked to the machine. It's never been clear to me why some came that way and others didn't.
