Uninstalling programs not listed in add/remove selections

Dec 11, 2003 9:43PM PST

I have Norton system works 2003 installed on my computer. I am using ME for an operating system. When I go to add remove in the control panel System works is not listed. The icon comes up on desktop as well as search file and folders. How do I uninstall it? Thanks

There should be a entry "Uninstall Norton SystemWorks" in the Start/Programs/Norton SystemWorks menu. If it's there use that to uninstall it.

I had thought the programs in my computor in add/Remove was it, but from experience I am finding some aren't, some appear in the programs folder which go in at start up. I have wondered about this as well. I have Dell Demension Windows XP. I don't have Nortons but my Virus Protection in there--others aren't. This is interesting question and probaly have logical answer somewhere.

Maisie663, Some programs are not listed in the Add/Remove Programs listing for some odd reason. When you run into this problem when you're trying to uninstall one of these go onto that program folder and look for an uninstall.exe or a unwise.exe file and use that to uninstall that program. There are some programs that don't even have an uninstall.exe or unwise.exe file. In that case the only thing you can do is delete that programs' folder then if you want to search the registry for any leftovers of that program and remove them. Make sure that you backup the registry prior to editing it.
