Uninstalling iTunes

Nov 21, 2004 6:20AM PST

Does anyone have an idea about how I can uninstall iTunes?? The normal "Add and Remove Programs" has no effect at all.

While I'm asking questions: Why is it not permitted to uninstall Quick Time?

Thanks ... vince

Not sure if you're running a Mac or a PC.

Have you tried to Google this?

Goto http://www.google.com and enter how+do+I+uninstall+Itunes?

You could try the same for Quicktime.

Thanks, Mark. I never thought of Google!! I'll give it a try.

BTW, I'm running a PC, XP Home with SP2 installed.

Maybe I'm getting old, but I don't remember ever installing iTunes! Could iTunes have been installed without my intervention?

Thanks again ... Vince

I went to Google, as suggested. One of the posts suggested downloading and re-installing iTunes. It worked, that is, I was able to UNINSTALL iTunes.

I probably brought the uninstall problem on myself. I have recently been plagued by browser hijacking and other nasty stuff. Executing Registry First Aid and Hijack This! too zealously might have gotten rid of files needed by Windows Add/Remove programs.

So, be careful.

Many thanks to Mark.

Yes I agree with roddy. Those anti adware and antispyware programs are very good.

Glad you have gotten rid of the problem though.

Thanks, Gents.

For protection I use Norton A-V (part of System Works), Zone Alarm Pro, AdAware, Spybot. Lately, also Registry Firwst Aid and Hijkack This!

When I run them all, I have only 35 seconds in the day to mess around!

Thanks for your responses and help.

Any comment about removing Quick Time completely?

Regards, and Happy thanksgiving ... Vince

I don't know Vince. I only had Quicktime on one of my computers. I uninstalled it through add/remove programs and got a popup saying something to the effect that removing it would cause problems but I clicked yes anyway and never had a problem with anything else but that was a different computer about 3 years ago. I would wait for someone to answer that has done it recently. Happy Thanksgiving to you too Vince.

Vince,

Try a windows search of "itunes" and see if you get a "Windows Installer Package" of itunes.

If you notice the WIP, it is a set-up icon. Right click on the icon and select Uninstall.

This should resolve the issue. You should check your Add-Remove Programs afterwards to confirm this.
