Uninstalling

Feb 25, 2004 5:31AM PST

I installed the weather channel but was unhappy having it pop up with booting so I tried to uninstall it. I tried from both the uninstall listed with the program and I also tried the add/remove. Both ways it wouldn't uninstall and I get a popup message saying
"cannot open INSTALL.LOG file". Is there anything I can do?

Dell Pentium III, OS ME, Internet Explorer

Lorrie,

Try reinstalling the program again, then uninstall.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Grif,
I reinstalled and uninstalled and was left with The Weather Channel still listed in my programs but when clicked on it showed empty so I just deleted it off my program lists. However, it still shows in the add/remove list and I still can't get rid of it.

Lorrie,

Apparently you aren't alone. Check out this link to the "Reviews" about "Weather Channel". See the response toward the middle of the page:

Desktop Weather by The Weather Channel

It sounds like there are a few remnants in the registry. Here are a couple of things that might help, although it will require a registry edit. In addition, you'll want to search for any related files on the hard drive.:

Remove Uninstalled Programs From ?Open With? Menu & Add/Remove Programs
This works in Windows ME/2K/XP.

Click on Start > Run > regedit
Navigate to this path: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\
- Find the extension for the filetype which has a cluttered "Open With" menu.
- Now goto the "OpenWithList" folder and delete the entries for software you no longer want to appear...

Then, if there are any remnants in the "Control Panel-Add/Remove Programs" section:

Hope this helps.
