Uninstall problem

Oct 30, 2006 6:19PM PST

I have been having trouble with my printer so decided to uninstall and reinstall - which did not help - I also did a systems restore.

I now want to uninstall the printer (might as well get another) but this is what happens.

I go into Add/remove
and thee are 4 entries for the Epson.
File Manager
Easy photo print
Printer software
Scan assistant

In each case it comes up with

Install Shield Set up Launcher has encountered a problem and needs to close.

We are sorry for the inconvenience

Info may be lost

Any ideas.

If I cannot get these entries off will it cause problems if I try to install another printer (not an Epson).

Some software needs the disk in the drive to uninstall the program.

This can cause the install shield to lose track of the programs uninstall function. You could try the Start button and programs list to see if Epson supplied an uninstall option there or the same by going to the "C" drive programs folder for Epson there.

Usually one can simply reinstall the software and then uninstall it OK.

reinstall the printer

Alot or the software provided by the printer companies will detect the presence of a version of the software already installed on your computer when you try to install it. It will then give you an option to uninstall the old version first. I'd give that a try first

put in the printer CD and start the installation and see if it give you an option to uninstall the software.

good luck, if you have already done a restore then just make sure your printer is unplugged and go to the c: drive in the program files folder and delete all the directories related to your epson and then start over.

Another Location For The Uninstaller...

After system restore, the "Add/Remove Programs" section can become confused.. It frequently loses track of the uninstall program and as a result, the "Remove" button can actually disappear..

Usually, on Windows XP, you can usually find the uninstaller by opening the "C/Windows/Installer" folder. Look at the properties on all of the files that contain a .msi file extension.. Although, the file names will have strange names like: "12c140.msi" and such, if you hover your mouse over the file, or RIGHT click on the file, choose "Properties", then the "Summary" tab, you should be able to identify the specific uninstallers for the Epson printer.

And to answer your other question, leaving the files installed should NOT cause a problem with any other non-Epson branded printers that you want to install in the future.

Hope this helps.

Actually I did reinstall but I have more flashing lights now than before so have decided to cut my losses and get a new printer.

Thanks for the info Grif that I as long as I get a NON EPSON printer I will be able to leave all those files on.
