Uninstall Internal Error

Jul 19, 2007 4:04AM PDT

Hi -

I am trying to remove a program which I installed awhile ago. However, when I use the Add or Remove Programs, I get a window that says:

The log file 'C:\Program Files\DK Multimedia\Eyewitness Encyclopedia of Nature 2.0\DeIsL6.isu' is not valid or the data has been corrupted. Uninstallation will not continue.

Can I do anything about this?

Thanks!

Possible method

If you really can't uninstall it, heres what I would do:

1) Delete the programs directory, in this case C:\Program Files\DK Multimedia\Eyewitness Encyclopedia of Nature 2.0\
WARNING: Don't permanently delete it from the recycle bin until you have successfully completed the second step.

2) Go to Add or Remove Programs and choose to uninstall the program. It will (in my experience) give you a dialog box saying that the program may have already been uninstalled and if you want to remove the program from the list. Choose 'Yes'

This has worked for me and hopefully it will work for you. I am running Windows XP Professional SP2. If you are running XP, I think that it will work for sure. I'm not sure about other versions of Windows though. Anyway, if it doesn't work, restore the folder back from Recycle Bin and post back.

New error message
Jul 20, 2007 6:25AM PDT

I tried both methods, however, they did not work. I even reinstalled the program and I now get a new message saying:

"Internal error, unable to load or call external DLL. Please contact your vendor for more information."

OK

I understand you get an error message but what PREVENTED you from using my method (delete the program folder, remove from program list). An error message? Application hang? Need more deatils. Also, if my method didn't work, restore the deleted program directory from the Recycle Bin. Now reinstall the program and try to uninstall. If you get the DLL error again do this:

1) Immediately after the error appears, go to Control Panel >> Administrative Tools >> Event Viewer.

2) Now search for any entries related to the uninstall error in the System and Application logs. The key info you need is the corrupt or missing DLLs name and filepath.

3) Once you have the name of the DLL, go to MS DLL Help (http://support.microsoft.com/dllhelp/) if the DLL file is related to Microsoft software or DLL World (http://dll.yaroslavl.ru/?lng=) if it belongs to your program

4) Download and copy the DLL file to its respective folder (assuming that you got the filepath). Replace files if neccessary.

5) Try uninstalling.

If you need help along the way, post back.

Another option you could try is deleting the program folder and then cleaning up the Registry with a Registry Cleaner (http://www.ccleaner.com/). WARNING: Use this option at your own risk. Backup everything before trying.
