Underlining in Windows ME

Mar 5, 2004 5:30AM PST

I have just installed ME and it is essentially operating normally, but there is an annoying characteristic: icons on the desktop, folders and files in Windows Explorer, are all underlined. I am embarrassed to admit I cannot find an option to eliminate this underlining and would be grateful for a cure.....Dave Ferris

"For the fonts question, this may simply be a Windows setting. Open
Explorer, click the View menu item and choose Folder Options. On the
General tab, what is selected for the viewing style? If it is Web
style, then you will get your icons with underlined fonts because
Windows will treat them the same as a web page hyperlink. You can
change this by either choosing classic style, or choosing custom and
hitting the settings button. Under the "click items as follows"
section, if underline titles consistent with browser settings is
selected, then they will all probably be underlined. Instead choose
underline only when I point at them."

Thanks for your reply and it got me on the right course. The solution was, on a Windows screen, select Tools, Folder Options, General Tab, Single Click to Open an Item (point to select), Underline icon titles only when I point at them. (I had selected Using classic desktop and Using classic folders). I appreciate your help very much....Dave Ferris
