General discussion

Under task mgr, App's Project 1

Dec 20, 2005 7:28AM PST

If I right click it then click go to process it shows Itesmart.exe

Google search seems to say it might be some kind of Trojan. However, I see none of the files that Symantec indicates that it installs. Google gives a link to a program to remove it, but it seems to show that it was related to a Year 2K infection.

Normally when doing nothing but having OE open [checks mail every 5 minutes]. Project1 is the only other application listed.

Is this actually a Trojan and, if yes, what would be the best scan to download and run?

Using Win XP Pro

Go to microsoft.com and on the main page you should see a link to download microsoft antispyware(beta). It says beta but it has been out for over a year and works perfectly, and to top it all off the spyware remover is free.

I've been using it,

updating it, installed the new version, it has NEVER detected anything. Immediately after running it, I then run Adaware, or spybot and they always find a bunch of spyware. Mostly the same things though because I go to so few places. But for the MS one to NEVER find anything is really disappointing.

I had glanced at some of them, will go back and look closer.

I've watched it in Task Mgr while trying a few websites [safe ones, that I use normally] and haven't seen it take any CPU %.

I may have found the answer.

My Soyo SY-KT600 Dragon Plus v2.0 mobo uses an ITE IT8705E chip. Searching Google gives a link only to a Portugese and Polsih page but allows transalting the Portugese. It says that the chip is a super I/O chip and provides for PATA and SATA drive control. [these are in addition to those provided by the VIA chipset.

Thus, I am going to a$$-u-me that it's the Smart drive aspect of the drives. I guess that I could try removing smart drive, but if it ain't broke***

Thanx to all.

of them also. I really doubt if it is malicious. You're welcome and have a great holiday.
