holding down option key at startup and running utility for hard drive . It says updating boot support for volume as required. I the computer doing this? or is it something I should do?

idea why can another utility like drive guineas be in the self boot when holding down option key on lion?

With Lion I'm having problems with mail always taking it offline and not getting mail.
