Undecided by Camera

Feb 19, 2010 4:00AM PST

I have used the CNET tool for finding the best camera for me, but I think it may be a bit overkill. So, I want to get others opinions. I travel and take many pictures. The last two cameras I have owned died because sand got in the mechanisms. I was told the Canon D-10 is a good choice, but is it what I need? I don't plan on going under water with it, and just take pictures.

Thanks in advance.

Protecting camera from the environment

You don't have to restrict yourself to the waterproof camera or expensive weather sealed professional D-SLR and lenses. You can buy an underwater housing for your favorite camera, which is usually a hard plastic case with external knobs and control to assess your camera's functions. Or you can buy a soft plastic cover bag with a lens port from a third party. Ewa-marine has some decent quality bags that can shield your camera from dust, dirt and water. Hard plastic cases usually cost more. The Ewa Marine costs about $160 and has many different models to fit many compacts and D-SLRs. This is not inexpensive, but has a good quality lens port that won't affect your photo image qualtiy too much. And it is better than changing cameras. It is also very portable and use it as needed for harsh environment.
