Unbelievable - Real Estate Prices

Jun 4, 2007 11:55AM PDT

On the news tonight, a city in New Mexico, with more homes valued at $1 million
or higher than there are at $100,000 or less. This is not just those on the market,
but of all existing homes.

What's the thought....Santa Fe or Taos ? Think again.....

Silver City - catchy name - a fair ways to or from anywhere - hidden up in the
mountains - population probably 10 to 12 thousand (guessing), I think there is a
single US highway servicing the city, and probably two or three State roads

We scouted out Silver City in the early '90s and thought things were well over
priced then. A realtor explained..."Silver City has been Californicated".

But, more homes at $1 million than at $100,000 ? In backward, rural New Mexico ?
Hard to believe, but the news person said so.............??????

Have you been to NM lately ?

Asking me ?

I live in Tularosa, New Mexico, and have watched the prices triple-plus in this little village, ie, $70K in the early '90s to $250K today for same property.

What I find interesting is that most of the "new" residents are from either the east or west coast areas.

I guess I'm too simple or happily easily pleased. I just don't get it why many a new home are so big in sq. footage to support 3 1/2 people(family) and darn near one main room would be my whole house. On top of all that all the creature comforts are so packed-in and then only 5-10ft. from the next door neighbor or even closer, besides the fence in some communities.

As for homes in out of the way places, I've seen some and they're not simple ranches. Anyways, whatever floats your boat, just don't complain about energy costs when you got X-sq. footage to heat or cool or have to travel x-miles before you see a gas station. -----Willy Happy

Is it considered....

.... a retirement community?

Golf courses, swimming pools, etc?

Around here, those that can afford such up-scale homes either build them on a goodly amount of acreage, or, as Willy noted, on zero-line lots (usually in gated communities.

Either way, they don't have to worry about encroachment by other developments.

I recall that years ago Arizona, for instance, was a haven for the allergy-plagued. But then the new residents started planting non-native plants and flowers, trying o make it look like their former property.
