I'm no expert on Networking, (I'm having my own problems re-instating a lost Local Network with my other PC), and I think you might do better in the Hardware > Networking forums, but to my untrained eye it would seem that your computer was once part of a local network.
Are you saying that that is the only network connection showing in Network Places?
Windows XP Professional system just installed (upgrade from 98SE)
Have a QWEST DSL service with an Actiontec modem.
When I go into the Network Connections in the control panel and right click on my Local area internet connection then click PROPERTIES then try to click SETTINGS I get the following popup window that says:
"The internet connection sharing computer is not configured to let network users control or disable the shared internet connection.
This setting can be changed in th eadvanced properties of the shared connection on the internet connection sharing computer."
I am the only user on this system and logged on as the administrator. Why cant I open this? other connections I am able to open all options. This is also called a strange name (Local area connection on Linux IGD)
Anyone know why???
