Dec 6, 2006 2:09AM PST

i m using 33GB maxtor Hard Drive. i was getting problem with that coz i was not able to run it and not able to format any drive (c.d.e.f). So i tried to do a low level format with MAXDIAG(maxtor LLF utility). at the main interface i select the drive and select read scan and it successfully read the haddrive. but when i try to select write scan i get error msg

" diagnostic system reported the following error code : F12SY2"

some one suggested me to use powermax 4.23.i used that utility but when i try to select low level format i got the error msg
"diagnostic code : cba3936a"

now plz any1 help me what to do with that hard drive.

Too slim details but such drives only last about 5 years and a 32GB is about that old now. Did you try a new drive?

With only the details provided, it sounds dead. Let's try this. Tell me if you've ever used FDISK and FORMAT before.

i tried Fdisk.i tried to delete all the logical drives and then deleted promary drive and fdisk showed that there are no more drives specified.but when i quit fdisk and pressed C: i was able to see all the drives(c,d,e,f). that means that fdisk wasnt able to remove those promiary and logical drives.
when i try to format any drive in dos it gives error.and when i try this on windows it doest allow me to fomat any drive.

A new IDE cable and look up DELPART.EXE at bootdisk.com. I want to point out that I don't hold hands or teach DOS. There are plenty of web sites about that. No need to duplicate ready web content.

Now with the new IDE cable, try DELPART.

Any change? If not, it's a common drive failure. Or you have it misconfigured. I've asked for details so unless you start telling every detail I'm going to keep calling it dead. You are the eyes, ears and hands.

This hardware doesn't care if you want it to work so please don't spend time on that topic.

when i connect this "dead" hard drive with another HDD(on which winxp is installed), i can see all the four drives of the HDD. Now if i try to format it or try to copy anything to it, it simply refuses.
anyway......i'll follow your suggestion.and if it didnt work. i'll throw it out of my house.

I asked for gritty details. JUMPERS, etc. You didn't provide them so I'm hampered and limited in checking if it's properly jumped.
