Unable to update or load Java on Windows xp

I was getting an error when Java wanted to update, so I followed the help instructions which told me to delete the old Java info from my programs and then try and re-load again. It still is giving me the same error and now I do not have Java at all. The error was 1330: A file tha is required cannot be installed in the cabinet file. C:\Documents and Settings\owner\application data\Sun\Java\Data1.cab has invalid signature. The cabinet may be corrupt.

I have not been able to find any solution and it even says on the Java website that they do not have a solution. Any suggestions?
