Question

unable to sign up new AT&T DSL account

Jun 8, 2011 6:52AM PDT

I am using Camcast Cable internet service at $19.99 per month with about 6 months left.
I
have Camcast Cable TV. I have AT&T regular telephone service at $11
per month (but the total bill end up over $20 per month). We never use
this land line because everybody here use our T-Mobile cell phones.

I
try to sign up AT&T DSL 3M service at $14.99 per month. Everything
is acceptable. Except, AT&T insist I have to change my AT&T
telephone service to U-Verse (or some such) at $25 per month (total bill
will be over $34 per month).

AT&T insist I must upgrade my telephone services which we never use. Why?

No more a la carte. Thank you Judge Green, a la 1984 and the break up of the Bell System.

In short, you buy what they offer. You might complain to your state's utility commission. Don't hold your breath.

I was renting in an ATT "community" and the choices were ATT or Satellite. No cable.

Really bizarre but such can happen today.

uverse

Like most sites the 14.99 price is to get you to look, I think the lowest price internet only plan you can get is 19.99 but you have to check the fine print again. The 14.99 I think gives you a discount only when you also buy the phone service.
I am surprised they don't try to upsell you the TV packages, which is common.

Still other than dealing with ATT... uverse works pretty well especially when they have the fiber to the house option.

phone service monopoly
Jun 9, 2011 3:19AM PDT

telephone land line service is exclusive, no any other option - AT&T is operating as monopoly

DSL internet service, without other option for internet connection - AT&T is operating as monopoly

however, all the selling of U-verse and high price stuff and not give any reasonably price alternative,

I have wrote letter to California State Utility commission PUC and never got any answer. Where are the regulators that supposedly protected consumers and allow us for reasonably price options?
