Unable to share folders

by nawin_g / September 17, 2005 9:46 PM PDT

i have Win XP running on my system.
i am connected to a LAN.

i was able to share my folders and other PC's on LAN were able to access them but from last three days though i share they are not accesible.

they can ping my system and even send messages (using net send) but when they try to access my system (\\PCNAME or \\ (my ip address)) it gives network path not found.

what am i supposed to do??

also i was havin this repair problem with LAN: clearing ARP cache!! i disabled the "routing and remote access" and repair is working fine but the sharing problem is still there.

Make Sure
by Themisive / September 24, 2005 6:38 AM PDT

that both bachines have the same name - in your case\\PCNAME, also make sure that in Control Panel the hard drive icons have the hand symbol underneath them (if not right click on the icon and go to Properties and then the Sharing page. Just click on the blue type there.

Can you use the LAN to print? If not, you have a similar problem, go into Start/Settings/Printers and Faxes, look for the printer icon, if it has a blue hand, ok, otherwise right click then click on Properties/Sharing and on the blue type again.

For the printer, you may also need to install the drivers on both computers.

I have the same "unable to share" problem. Everything was sharing fine one day and not the next. Still able to ping machine from other computers the sane as you can.
