Unable to save answers pages to my computer.

Jun 30, 2007 2:51AM PDT

Some answers to question asked by members contain important information which I like to save on my computer. Using "save as" instruction, saving stops after a while and a message appears that says "There is insufficient memory to save this web page". When this message appears, the free RAM is about 170 MB, free space on HD is over 16 GB (my conputer is almost empty). What could be the reason of this problem and is there any way to save important pages. This occurs only with pages that are opened through links in the main letter. The main letter itself can be saved without problems.

I ues Xp+SP2. IE 6, and Yahoo Mail

What I'd do

Is instead of trying to save the web page, I'd just focus on the content. Copy and pasting the text into a word processor document for example. Though a better solution would be to create a searchable database, so it's easy to find information quickly. Something like MS Access or OpenOffice's Base would probably work, but if you know anyone would could set up a proper relational database for you, it'd work a lot better.

Another thing I'd suggest, is not using Internet Explorer. It's simply too dangerous to be used for anything but applying new security patches, and even that is a calculated risk. I'd strongly recommend migrating yourself to Mozilla Firefox, Opera, or Safari.

Sorry for being so late to reply. I was away from home in a long summer leave.

Thanks for your advice. It worked well.

Agreed..I've Got A 'Word' Document That's 45 Pages Long..

...which allows me to save text and links to the information I need.. I can save a link to a specific information page if I choose to do so simply by copying the link from the address bar to the Word document. If it doesn't automatically become a clickable hyperlink, you can always highlight the URL, then click on the "Insert Hyperlink" button in the Word toolbar at the top of the page.. I find such a document the easiest to keep intact, edit when I need to, and backup to a CD occasionally.

If you're really intent on saving links, you can save separate links to websites by accessing the page in Internet Explorer, then "drag and drop" the "e" icon which is immediately to the left of the URL in the address bar to a blank area on the desktop. (It's similar in Firefox.. You drag and drop the "sheet of paper" icon which is immediately to the left of the URL in the address bar.)

Hope this helps.
