Unable to play MPEG files in Divx or Windows Media Player

Aug 28, 2005 5:53AM PDT

A while ago I added a Media organizer program, after installing I am now unable to play MPEG files in either the Divx player or Windows Media Player 10. Both of these played MPEG files fine before I installed the progra. Quicktime and the AOL Media player can both play MPEG fine. I uninstalled the program that caused the problem but that did not help. I have all current updates for both Divx and Windows Media Player. Any suggestions would be helpfull.

I am running Windows XP

Maybe the files are not asocited with divx or windows media player? When you open the files, what program do they open with? If they open with a diff program then divx or windows media player, you can open them with these players by right clicking on the files, point to open with ... and choose program and select these players. Or, if you want the player to be set defualt, right click any mpeg file, click on properties, choose program, and choose the program you want to open with. then press apply and close it. try now.

The new program probably messed with the mpeg decoder

used by divx and Media Player. You will need to figure out where that decoder came from.
