Answer
I have Quatro Pro X6 w/Win 10 & it opens just fine.

I don't know how old 12 is, but I had 11 and it wasn't supported with Windows 8, so I got the X6 version of Wordperfect Suite about a year and a half ago. Maybe you need a newer version?

Quattro pro 12 and Windows 8.1
Sep 4, 2015 11:49AM PDT

Been running fine on 8.1 and 8 before. just the other day this problem developed. If not supported by 8 would I have had a problem a long time ago. WordPerfect works just fine.

That's not exactly how it works.

Microsoft issues updates daily it seems and if an OS call is changed then an old app can die.

Now that you have supplied the Quattro Pro version let's see what turns up.

According to Corel's web site only X6 & X7 are supported w/8

Take a look at this link
http://www.corel.com/us/corel-and-windows-8-compatibility/
They only list X6 and X7 as compatible with Windows 8. That doesn't always mean that you can't hook and crook it to get it to run, but I'll just say you're trying to run 2004 software on a 2011 version of Windows, and that's not supported.
As others have pointed out, sometimes when you get something unsupported to work, Windows updates come along and suddenly it doesn't work any more. Nobody can say if that's what happened or not, but I have to tell you that it's time for you to either upgrade or try something else. There's a free office suite called LibreOffice that you might want to try if you don't want to buy new software.

Good luck.
