Question

Unable to manually set f stop over f 7.9 on camera

Nov 11, 2013 11:44PM PST

I am a newbie to photography. I have a Pentax Optio 550 which is over 10 years old. I manually tried to set the f stop to f16, but was unable to go over f7.9. The owners manual does not have the answers.
After reading many articles it seems that all digital cameras are capable of setting the stop at f16. What am I missing? Is it my camera or me? Your help is appreciated.
Thank you

re: "Maximum Aperture f/2.8 - f/5.4"

Bob,

I believe that refers to the the largest aperture physically possible, not the smallest. i.e. f16 is smaller than f2.8 or f5.6 (Also, that manual appears to be for the A40, not the 550, unless that's the same camera referred to be a different model number.)

Mark

P.S. To the OP -- sorry, I don't know why aperture stops at f7.9

Good point.

But when I looked for that camera that was the manual that was tossed at me. And the vagaries (quirkiness) of English steps in here as I took the word "over" as something larger when in camera parlance it really means the other.

This camera appears to be a point and shoot with some control but from what I could dig up, there are limits.
