Question

Unable to keep monitor on

Oct 14, 2018 9:58AM PDT

I have installed a 2TB into an existing system that does have Windows 10. The problem that I am having and was having prior to the new hard drive, the monitor would give these two messages: Monitor going to sleep and Push Button Lock-on. I have tried multiple times of starting the computer. I have held the power button in for 30 seconds per the recommendations. I have tried two other monitors and get those same error messages. Called Staples to see if they could help but they wanted to charge me $169.99 just for a diagnostic. I know there has to be an easy fix for this, but I am not able to find it. The reason for the new 2TB hard drive was b/c prior to Hurricane Florence, my computer was giving me the blue screen of death so I wanted to upload a new hard drive in hopes to fix two things but it seems as though nothing is working. Please help me on this. It would greatly be appreciated.

Because of the BSOD, We Would Try A Couple of Things

First, remove any newly installed programs which could be causing issues. Also make sure to have the latest motherboard and hardware drivers installed, especially updated graphics drivers. (Check for those drivers at the computer manufacturer or device manufacturer's website.)

Next, run "chkdsk /f /r /x" from an elevated command line which should fix any damaged files and file space.

Once that's done, if the problem continues, then it's probably time to perform a clean install of the operating system, all drivers and all programs.

Hope this helps.

Unfortunately I can not keep the monitor on. I am not able to see anything, no icons, no clock, no programs and not even the mouse. So basically I am blind b/c nothing is on the monitor but a black screen. I have tried the F7 key as well as the F10 and nothing. I think it is the mother board that has finally bit the dust. When you have tried several different monitors, including a new monitor and you get the same error message it is beginning to look like it is going to be more expense to fix then to replace.
