unable to install quicktime - windows installer stops workin

Sep 2, 2010 4:13PM PDT

I am running Vista home edition and I'm having trouble every time I try to install or repair Quicktime 7.6.7. It seems to be installing correctly and right at the very end quicktime says that it has finished installing but then I get an error message from windows that says 'Windows installer stopped working and was closed - a problem caused the application to stop working correctly and windows will notify me if a solution is available." When i close that box I get another window saying that Windows DEP has closed windows installer. I have followed the steps in the advanced system settings to modify Data Execution Prevention, but I'm unable to turn it off for the quicktime program. Any ideas on what to do next??

Why do you want to turn it of for the "Quicktime program" if the error message refers to another program "Windows installer"? And why can't you?

same error message

I was trying to disable it for quicktime because I get the same message every time I try to install/repair/uninstall the program. If the problem is with windows installer, what should I do to fix it? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. thx

The Windows installer program ...

is c:\windows\system32\msiexec.exe in XP. Could well be somewhat different in Vista.

quicktime install error

I went through the steps to completely remove all of the apple components and reinstall quicktime and I received this error message during the installation process, and then the installation stopped:

An error occurred during the installation of assembly 'policy .8.0.Microsoft.VC80.CRT,
version="8.0.50727.4053",type="win32-policy",publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b",
processorArchitecture="x86". Please refer to Help and Support for more information. HRESULT: 0x8007371B

I googled the error code and didn't find anything that's related to the problem I'm having right now

Kees, I'm not exactly sure what you mean. How do I find that out?

(NT) Search for msiexec.exe on your hard disk.
