Unable to Install Norton Internet Security 2005

Jun 13, 2005 9:03PM PDT

Currently using a Dell Machine on Windows ME, and have problems with installing Norton Internet Security 2005.

I keep getting the message 'Setup has detected that a previous Install or Uninstall has been completed but requires a restart.....'

I have restarted the pc many times, and still get the same message.

I then ran Rnav2003 and RnisUPG from the Symantec website, and again restarted. Still same outcome.

Please can someone help and advise.
Cheers
John

Try a 3rd-party uninstaller
Jun 14, 2005 3:06PM PDT

I had the same thing happen with an older version. My guess is that either a previous version is causing a problem or Norton IS2005 initial installation failed. Either way, you need to delete all remnants of Norton before continuing.

Try downloading a program such as Your Uninstaller 2004 (21-day trial). It will show you programs which may not necessarilly appear in the standard add/remove programs menu. If Norton (or a competing product) is listed, uninstall it. First, the traditional uninstaller will launch. After it has completed, the program's built-in uninstaller will forcibly remove any remnants left behind (the standard uninstaller is not very thorough).

After that, run RegCleaner (free), which will delete any remnants (of it and other programs) left in your registry. Combined, these two programs should remove all traces of Norton, thus allowing you to install the latest version without a hitch.

Hope this helps,
John
