Unable to Install Any and All Updates

Sep 20, 2010 12:28PM PDT

I am unable to install any and all updates. When I try to install Microsoft Updates I receive error code: 80072EFD. I read Microsoft's trouble-shooting tips and they do not work. When trying to update Google Earth I receive an error message "Unable to contact the server to check for updates."

I thought at first I needed to disable my firewall, as I am using Symantec AntiVirus, however after disabling and then completely uninstalling the AV program, the problem still persists.

Can anyone help me figure this out? I am obviously connected to the internet, so that's not my problem. Also, I should mention that I got a pretty nasty virus a few months ago (this was before I had Symantec AV). The virus was the FAKE AV software that kept running "fake" scans producing "fake" results and did not let me download new or run existing programs. This might be totally unrelated, but I still thought it was worth mentioning. Also, thinking I might have another virus, I ran Symantec, Malbytes, and MS Security Essentials and NO viruses were discovered.

Any help you can provide is SOOO greatly appreciated.

Thank you!!

Michelle

Unable to Install Updates (addition)

I would also like to add that I am unable to log in to the iTunes store. When I followed their prompts, they said I should flush my DNS Settings, which I did, through the Command Prompt, and that still did not work.
