Click on Start-Run, type "dxdiag" (without the quotes), then click on OK. The DirectX Diagnostics window will load. First, make sure it's DirectX version 9.0c by checkin the version number listed. Let it check the WHQL driver signatures as it loads, then click on the "Display" tab. Run through all the tests to make sure DirectX is functioning correctly. Then run through the "Sound" tests and others by clicking on the tabs.
If everything works correctly, then the problem is with the game not DirectX. In those cases, it's important to make sure the computer meets all the system requirements. Commonly, the error you're receiving occurs because your video card (or possibly the sound card) are incompatible with DirectX 9.0c.
Hope this helps.
I am trying to use/install a computer game, but I keep getting an error that says: Unable to initialize DirectX.
I installed the latest version of DirectX and updated my audio driver, but have not had any luck. I'm running under windows2000. Any tips or suggestions would be appreciated
