Unable to Download File

Sep 29, 2004 7:41AM PDT

Hello,
I am trying to download a video file that is about 17 megs from a site. It a compressed file. Everytime I download it, it downloads for like 1 minute up to 1.6 megs or 2 megs and then says it's complete(but its really not because the file is 17 megs). I try to open it, but it says the file is corrupt and invalid.

Other people are able to download the file okay, so I think there is something I am doing wrong. Can anyone tell me whats wrong?

Thank you!

Risha,

Whenever posting questions on these forums, please give us as much information as possible about your computer. Depending on your issue, we might need the operating system, processor speed, amount of RAM installed, brand name of the computer, (if there is one), any EXACT error messages you are receiving and in your case, the type of internet connection you're using. Which browser version are you using?.
Are you using a particular file sharing program to do the download? Which site are you downoading the file from? The more information you give us, the better informed our answer will be.

Hope this helps and let us know more.

Ok,
I am using Windows XP , Dell and my browser is AOL 9.0, with dial-up modem. I am not downloading it from a file sharing program. It is from the site host of dhost.info.

Thanks.

Try a download of Firefox, then use Firefox to download it.

Maybe you need to rethink your question. You wrote:

"How can you knowedge of the above systems determine an answer to the posters question. come on!"

First, as moderator of this "Newbies" forum, I use the information when answering this post and when answering questions in future posts that the user might have. I do my best to keep track of user's systems.

Second, an operating system designation is the most basic of information needed to direct a fix for most problems.

For example: In your good suggestion to "Try dumping or clearing the Temp files", a newbie will occasionally ask: Which "Temp" files?, where are they?, and how do I do that?

On Windows 98, are you talking about the files in the Temporary Internet Files folder which normally resides at "C\Windows\Temporary Internet Files", or the "C\Windows\Temp" folder, or the "C\Temp" folder? On a Windows 2000/XP computer, those same folders will be in a totally different location and instructions for cleaning those folders will be different. Even the version of Internet Explorer may need to be known in order to correctly clean out certain folders.

Third, Processor speed and RAM give me information about the age and speed of the computer.

An old Windows 95 machine with a slow processor, small amount of RAM, and an out of date dial-up system, may need a number of instructions to update the drivers, dial-up networking programs, and a lot of other things where a newer Windows XP might not have the same needs. Then again, if it was an XP upgrade from an earlier OS on old computer, then there might be a modem driver issue..

There are reasons for my questions...

HOpe this helps.

Hard drive space?
Memory, CPU?
Dial-up, Cable or DSL?
P2P networking? If involved I will not provide assistance
Parasites?

Others will add to list.
