Question

Unable to connect Samsung Galaxy S2 to PC using USB

Jan 10, 2012 6:06AM PST

When I connect SGS2 (Samsung Galaxy S2) to PC using USB the PC just gives me a yellow triangle and says that it does not recognise the device.

I had Kies. Uninstalled it. Reinstalled it. It didn't solve the problem.

What does MTP mean on SGS2? How do I run/stop it on phone? Where can I find it (system services?)?

What driver do I need to reinstall or remove on PC?
PC: Win7 64 bit

Samsung Galaxy S2: not rooted
Model: GT-I9100
Android: 2.3.3

either its a problem with ur chord..... but it happens sometimes. Open Keis and on one of the tabs there will be an update driver option. Even with keis fully updated and reinstalled this can be selected and a update will work. restart after the update and it should come up.

Maybe a problem with your USB cable
May 25, 2012 10:16AM PDT

I read the replies to this thread and realize my problem was between the phone and the computer (and not a problem with the phone itself Love ). Upon changing the USB cable my S2 worked instantly Cry . Much relief after struggling with re-installing drivers and googling for a few days.

A fix for the Galaxy <--> Kies issue
May 29, 2012 11:28AM PDT

Hi folks.

I've fixed this so I thought I'd make the answer available.

I made two installs of Kies, one at home and one at work. The one at home failed miserably whilst the work one came up perfectly. After a lot of head-scratching and investigation I discovered that the version of Kies from the *Canadian* Samsung website has newer USB drivers and, having installed that at home, it now works excellently.

I hope this helps anyone else who's been having difficulties. Samsung dot com forwardslash ca gets you there. Happy

Cheers,
Boosteroid

heres an easier way
Jun 9, 2012 2:06PM PDT

You dont even need kies, if you plan on using the USB link for file transfer. Get a widget called Power Lite Widget and install. It should have a usb function you can put right on your home screen. As soon as you connect via USB, hit the USB button and it will recognize.

USB Galaxy connection problems.
Jul 5, 2012 1:12AM PDT

I was having trouble connecting the phone to the computer. As I was talking to support and we could not get it hooked up, I took the usb cable from my HTC Merge and hooked it up and it worked fine. So I would suggest if you have a new or different sync cable, try this first. It appears that they know about this, but have done nothing about it.

KIES not connecting SOLVED
Jul 16, 2012 6:41AM PDT

I have been trying to connect my galaxy s2 to kies for months... reading loads of forum posts... trying all possibility... plug, unplug, restart, *#728#... modem on, modem off... uninstall USB driver, reinstall, change it...
I have a windows 7 64.
Yesterday I thought to load download KIES on my laptop, which is a VISTA 32 and I had no problem whatsoever, connected, recognised, updated to android 4.xx in less than 20 minuts. Why didn't I think that before! why is not samsung mentioning this, and why 64bit system is not supported... driving people crazy!! I hope it work for you.

Same problem
Jul 17, 2012 10:21PM PDT

I've got the same problem with my Samsung Galaxy s2, (GT-I9100P) and Windows 7. I've tried everything in this forum, connecting via another cable, reinstalling Kies software, *#7284# turning modem on/off, i've even tried another Galaxy s2 in my windows 7 PC and I get the exact same problem. It charges, but won't recognise that it is a USB device. I've tried debugging mode, whenever I go into USB Utilities for mass storage, I hit "Connect storage to PC" the box "Connect USB cable to use mass storage" pops up, when I connect it the box just disappears and the phone charges, however no USB detection at all. I've even checked device manager and it doesn't even recognise that it's there either. I'm totally and utterly stumped, does anyone have any idea how to fix this problem?

I can't tell what you tried.
Jul 17, 2012 11:35PM PDT

I don't see where you tried another USB cable or another PC. Those are things we have discussed but you didn't reveal if you tried these things to figure it out. I've come across too many bad cables and PCs with issues.

Did you verify...

....that your cable is compatible to allow charge and data transfers ??? Some cables will only charge and not allow for data transfers.

Answer
I'm not sure where I found it but this is how to FIX it.
Aug 6, 2012 5:29AM PDT

in case anyone needs a step by step ...

1. go to www.samsung.com
2. click support
3. click cellphones
4. and complete the "find your model" portion
mine for example: SPH-D710 --- if yours is the same use "send" link in step 8
5. under support options choose "manuals and downloads"
6. scroll down a bit and there's 4 tabs, choose "Manuals and Downloads"
7. then click "software" <div>8. there should only be one to choose from so click "exe" then "send".
9. after you've downloaded the driver open it
once it's installed you can plug your phone in and it will be like it used to be
</div>

First, you may have to uninstall the old driver:1. Connect your device to PC 2. Open Control Pannel-> Administrative Tools-> Computer Management-> Device Manager 3. Find Android USB Devices, unfolder it to delete the driver 4.You may go to the Samsung official site to download the driver.

How to connect Samsung Galaxy S2 to PC
Dec 17, 2012 9:31PM PST

Hi, everyone

I had the same problem and I did this:

I downloaded the mobile driver software at http://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/product/SGH-T989ZWBTMB
this site has the mode of my cellphone and the company that provides me the service. If you don't know the model of your device you can check in setting-about the phone-model number.

Then, tap the settings on your phone
go to more...
then, wireless and networks
go to usb utilities...

Be sure that your device is not connected. Tap the button Connect Storage to PC.
When the phone get ready, you can connect it.
And that's it.
