Resolved Question

Unable to access windows explorer through taskbar

Jul 27, 2014 4:37AM PDT

Hi,

Whenever I try to access my documents or any other file in windows explorer through the taskbar or the start button it won't open. I can clearly see the miniature previews open on the taskbar button but I can't see the window itself in full view when I click on it. Is there anything I can do about this besides recovering to an earlier point?

Thanks.

check your display settings.

If this is a laptop, you may have set for dual monitor and everything's opening on a monitor that's not there.

It was my dual monitor settings, pretty stupid of me not to think of that. Problem solved, thanks everyone!

Answer
This smells of an old malware.

This one sounds like the old funmail(can't recall it's name but it was something like that) and Explorer did open but on another monitor. The window was not visible on the screen but we could move it on screen with arcane keyboard commands. Rather than call this a virus or such, boot safe mode (well done on the web) and try again.
