Question

UN65HU8550 with different Main Board?

May 10, 2015 2:53PM PDT

I just recently bought a demo UN65HU8550 from a small mom and pop shop and just a couple days later I started experiencing random reboots. When I went to the "Contact Samsung" to get information on my unit, it showed Model: UN60HU8550 with a different Serial than what was on the back of the unit. The back shows it as what it physically is, UN65HU8550.

Did they have this serviced before or did their own repair? Or is it possible to have those two different boards in this TV? Is having that board in the TV obviously the culprit?

Answer
Let Sam's service deal with it.

Since it's new, I'd place the call to Samsung service and let them do their thing.

service request

Ya. I opened a service request online but my concern is if the shop did open and did some repairs on their own that samsung wont cover the repair. So im just trying to get clearification if its at all possible that Samsung could have built it/repaired it with the wrong main board before i go back to the shop upset.

YOU are the first owner. If the shop did something, it's not your problem. Unless there is something untold like gray market, etc.

Not sure if first owner

I can't say for sure I am the first owner and it is from a shop, just a mom and pop shop in Clovis, CA. He told me that it was a demo unit and at that time he did turn it on and displayed a bluray for me and it played fine for the 5min we watched it. Beyond that, I can't say where he actually got he TV from. I am waiting to call them this morning to discuss the situation further.

You are the first retail owner. If this is so flighty, why not bail out? Call up the shop and go for a refund?

BTW.

Not long ago I was working with some tech production company and the nightmare of getting the external SN to match the internal board SN came up. Since only techs or such see such our take was no big deal. We know these things don't always match up. Keeping them matched would have incurred more time and cost. So we didn't.

as is

I agree bob. The sn doesnt have to match but the pn/model # i would think would. Im just trying to get substantial evidence to back my claim so i can vouch for a refund because he sold it to me as is with a 30day repair warranty only. But ive only had it 2 days.

Still odd.

It has Samsung's own warranty that doesn't start till the retail buyer gets the product. You have the 30 day as-is. and maybe there's something left out of the story.

Let's see Sam's performance over the next 24 hours. And this is sad to read you opened it up. Sam could walk out on that alone.

Model and SN's
May 11, 2015 2:25AM PDT

I sent an email to the address above.

I confirmed my TV is 65", so physically I have a UN65HU8550 SN: 02FW3CZFB03935J (per sticker).

But the TV itself, within the "Contact Samsung", is showing Model: UN60HU8550 SN: 02P13CZFB02922k.

Being a techie, I took it upon myself to open the back panel and the main board is indeed a UN60HU8550 main board.

What started me investigating was that the TV is rebooting itself randomly when watching regular TV or regular bluray/dvd; anywhere from 20min to 45min. But the biggest problem is that I can replicate the issue by attempting to watch a 3D movie. It will play for just 1-2min and then reboot constantly.

The transaction was from The TV Shop, Clovis CA, Receipt #18739. I was trying to get a decent price on a unit to replace my current Samsung that is still going strong. I'll have to see what the shop says when they open this morning.

Thanks.
